Once upon a Baobab

This project began as something else - but after some hilarious stories around a Tuli wilderness campfire it became impossible not to veer in this direction. We were discovering a wealth of irresistible Walkeriana, and there’s no way we’re passing up an opportunity to go adventuring with this Wise Man & Legend of the African bush.

Here’s the official blurb:

Baobabs are the Route Markers. From the Tropic of Capricorn, in a great swathe north through 20 sub-Saharan countries, they’ve kept their slow, steady watch as the forces of nature and humanity swept by, shaping the Africa we know today. A mature Baobab is at once Museum and Marker - it enables us to look back to our past, and to gaze ahead to our possible futures.

When CLIVE WALKER - author, artist, conservationist - goes Travelling with Baobabs we are treated to a creative and insightful celebration by a master raconteur.

In ONCE UPON A BAOBAB we venture into forgotten corners of wild savannah country. We move through history and archaeology, mythology, wilderness ecology and science. We meet an extraordinary cast of characters - each playing out his fated part in a drama scripted by Africa itself. The story moves from heroism and tragedy, to folly and farce; and standing as witness at various twists and turns of the plot, majestic, ancient Baobabs, themselves now characters of legend, enigma, and secrets.
